Making your own mix CD is great if you're traveling without a digital player or want to listen to music on your home audio system. CDs offer several benefits over digital music and are preferred by those who want the best quality in their car or home theater system. Converting part of your digital music library to CD is a relatively easy process whether you use Windows or a Mac. All you need is a CD burner drive, blank CDs and you're ready to go.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use Windows to make an easy mix CD. Insert a blank CD into your CD-RW drive and wait for the dialog box to appear. Select "Open writable CD folder." A new window will pop up representing the future content of your music CD. Open the folder with the MP3s or other digital music with which you'd like to create a CD. Drag these files to the window representing your CD drive. Adjust the order of songs by dragging and dropping. When you are finished dragging the files, click "Write these files to CD." This will open the CD Writing Wizard which will guide you through the final steps to create your mix CD.

  2. Step 2

Use Windows Media Player to create CDs. Insert your blank CD into the drive. A dialog box should appear. Select "Burn audio CD using Windows Media Player." If no dialog box appears, open Media Player from the Start Menu. Click on the "Burn" menu. Select your songs from the playlist and drag them into the right window pane. If desired, drag and drop additional files from a different window. Adjust the order of songs by dragging and dropping. Click "start burn" to finalize and create your mix CD.

  3. Step 3

Use iTunes to create CDs. Open iTunes and insert a blank CD into your CD-RW drive. Create a new playlist and add the songs you wish to burn with to this playlist. Then click "burn disc" in the bottom right-hand corner of the iTunes window. A dialog box will open with more options to select. Choose "maximum possible" burning speed unless you've been having problems with discs not burning correctly. In this case, choose a slower speed. If you don't want gaps between tracks, choose "None." To ensure maximum compatibility with all CD players, leave the last two options, "MP3 and Data CD" blank. Click "Burn" to create your mix CD.
