How to Clean Mold on Leather

You may have stumbled upon a leather jacket or leather shoes in an old attic. The excitement of finding the product can be diminished, however, if you notice mold on this leather item. Unlike other clothing items, a leather jacket or leather shoes cannot be placed in a washing machine or sink full of water, as the item will get ruined. By spot cleaning the leather item, you can safely clean the mold from the leather.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Allow the leather item to completely dry.

  2. Step 2

    Wipe the area of leather filled with mold with a clean, dry cloth. Once you have done this, place this cloth aside.

  3. Step 3

    Fill a spray bottle with a 50-50 solution of rubbing alcohol and warm water.

  4. Step 4

    Fold a second clean towel in half. Then, spray one side of the cloth with the solution so that it is slightly damp.

  5. Step 5

    Wipe away the mold with the wet side of the cloth.

  6. Step 6

    Flip the cloth to the dry side and wipe the area again.

  7. Step 7

    Examine the leather item. If you still see any mold, repeat the cleaning process.

  8. Step 8

    Hang the leather item so that it dries. Do not put the item away until is has completely dried.
