How to Use Your Own MP3 Song As a Ringtone

At one time, you might have downloaded mp3 songs from a file sharing program, or you might have even uploaded your own mp3 songs onto a computer. If the mp3 file is rare, chances are your cell phone company will not offer that song as a ringtone. Fortunately, numerous websites allow you to convert mp3 songs into ringtones. Myxer is a website that lets you turn mp3 songs into ringtones for your phone for free.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign up for a personal account on Myxer (see Resources).

    • 2

Sign into your Myxer account (see Resources).

    • 3

Click "Ringtones" at the top of the page.

    • 4

Locate and click the "Select File" button on the right side of the Ringtones page.

    • 5

Choose the mp3 song on your computer that you want to use as a ringtone.

    • 6

Click "Upload." A rectangular window will appear in the center of the Web page.

    • 7

Change the settings of your mp3 ringtone. You can set the starting point, length and volume of the ringtone in this box.

    • 8

Click "Continue." Your cell phone number will be posted in the center of the rectangle. Click the "Next" button to the right of the number.

    • 9

Click "Send." The file or a link for that mp3 ringtone (depending on your cell phone) will be sent to the cell phone. A short commercial will run in the window and then instructions for saving the mp3 ringtone on your cell phone will appear in the window.

Tips & Warnings

  • Unfortunately, not all cell phones or cell phone providers allow you to upload your own ringtone files from Myxer or any similar website. Since your cell phone will receive a text message from Myxer, you may be charged for the message per the terms of your particular cell phone contract.
