How to Put a Numbered List on a Web Page

You can list items in order on your page using numbered lists. Like bulleted lists, numbered lists call attention to key steps.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • "A text editor, such as Notepad or EditPad"
  1. Step 1

    Open the web page using a text editor, such as Notepad or EditPad.

  2. Step 2

    Place your cursor where you want the bulleted list to begin.

  3. Step 3

    Type the following:

      . This stands for 'ordered list', also known as a numbered list.

    1. Step 4

      Press the return key and type the following:

    2. . This stands for 'list item,' just like a bulleted (or 'unordered') list.

    3. Step 5

      Type your text and press return. Type

    4. before each line you want bulleted.

    5. Step 6

      End the bulleted list by typing

    . The backslash indicates a closing tag.

  4. Step 7

    Save the file. Open your browser and select Open from the File menu. Click Browse, locate the file and click open to view the page in your browser.

Tips & Warnings
  • You do not have to add the break
    tag after each line item. The list tag does it for you.
