How to Put a Numbered List on a Web Page

You can list items in order on your page using numbered lists. Like bulleted lists, numbered lists call attention to key steps.

Things You'll Need:

• "A text editor, such as Notepad or EditPad"

1. Open the web page using a text editor, such as Notepad or EditPad.

2. Place your cursor where you want the bulleted list to begin.

3. Type the following:

   . This stands for 'ordered list', also known as a numbered list.

   2. . This stands for 'list item,' just like a bulleted (or 'unordered') list.

   3. Type your text and press return. Type

   4. before each line you want bulleted.

   5. End the bulleted list by typing

   . The backslash indicates a closing tag.

4. Save the file. Open your browser and select Open from the File menu. Click Browse, locate the file and click open to view the page in your browser.

Tips & Warnings

• You do not have to add the break
  tag after each line item. The list tag does it for you.
