How to Become a Racehorse Trainer

Becoming a horse trainer can be a very rewarding and challenging career choice. You will be working with both horse and owner in order to ensure that the horse gets the training that it needs. As in any profession, knowledge, real -world experience, a good head for business and persistence are very valuable tools for success.

      Educate yourself about horses and all aspects of horse care and training. From all the different kinds of training to the basics of grooming, a good trainer has to have knowledge and experience in all these fields.

      Spend as much time working around horses as possible. Apart from education, you also need working experience. This experience will also help you decide what kind of training you would like to specialize in.

      Take a good business class. No matter what kind of business you run, you need to know the basics of business management and administration. A basic accounting course might also be helpful.

      Get a good computer. A computer will assist you in keeping your files and your financial records organized. You might also want to invest in some accounting software. For documents that you are unable to store on your PC, a good filing system will be invaluable.

      Advertise. Whether you advertise in the newspaper, online, or through magazines, unless you put your business out there you will not find any success. Make sure your ads are concise, and clearly list which services you have to offer. Advertising can be expensive, but in the long run it's worth it.
