How to Create Your Own Brochures or Flyers

Creating your own flyers or brochures allows you to customize them to fit your event and to make sure that they are exactly what you want. Instructions

    • 1

Open your graphics software and choose a template that says either flyer or brochure, depending on which you are making. Many programs have several versions of these templates, some blank and some with information and graphics already filled in. Beginners may want to start with templates, as there is less information to change on them.

    • 2

Arrange any desired graphics into place in your project. Some templates may come with graphics already included, so you can either use these or delete them and replace them with your own graphics. Most graphics programs include a library of clip art that can be used to enhance the flyer or brochure. Websites also provide online images that can be used in a project; however, make sure that the images are available for reuse without paying royalties.

    • 3

Add text to your project. As with graphics, some templates may include some basic text to replace it with your own text specific to your event. Many templates will simply have words like "time" and "place" in various areas of the flyer to indicate where such information should go. However, these areas are only suggestions, and this information can go anywhere on the flyer.

    • 4

Choose your paper. If you plan to make many copies of the flyer, it may be more cost effective to choose a light copy paper. However, if you plan to display the flyers outdoors, a heavier card stock may be more appropriate. If you choose a colored paper, be sure it does not clash with the rest of the flyer.

    • 5

Print one copy of the flyer or brochure as a test print and carefully proofread it.

    • 6

Print the flyers or brochures and distribute them.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure all text is readable against the background color. Be particularly aware of this if you are printing on colored paper.
