How to Make a Fog Machine
Creating your own fog machine can add a nice effect to your Halloween party or event. Depending on how much fog you are looking to produce, you will need to adjust your measurements of ingredients. However, this is a relatively easy project to tackle and make your event stand out.
Things You'll Need
- 1 block of dry ice at least 12 inches long and 6 inches high
- 1 large pot or bucket, no higher than 2 inches taller than your dry ice block
- Hot water
- Small, low powered fan
- Gloves
Instructions

1
Place your pot or bucket in the location you want your fog to appear. Once it is set up, it will be hard to move.
-
2
Fill your pot or bucket half-way with hot water---not boiling, just very, very warm.
-
-
3
Using gloves, place the dry ice inside your pot or bucket. Fog should begin to appear in the room almost immediately.
-
4
Turn on a small low-powered fan nearby to help move the fog around the room. Place the fan at least 24 inches away from the pot/bucket to prevent a condensation buildup on the fan.

As the fog begins to slow down, add additional hot water to the bucket.

Tips & Warnings
You may choose not to add a fan, depending on the effect you want. A slower moving fog can be accomplished by leaving the dry ice in the hot water on its own without the help of any additional fans or devices.
Always keep the room you are using dry ice in well ventilated with fresh air. Dry ice is solid CO2, and too much buildup in the room over a long period of time can become toxic (carbon dioxide poisoning). Never leave the device unattended, and always keep a window open nearby.
