Design Your Own Acoustic Guitar

An acoustic guitar has a soulful and honest sound. This instrument transcends borders in music. Acoustic guitars are played by rock musicians, country music starts, indie rockers, and even in symphonies. Designing your own acoustic guitar will allow you to create a guitar that fits your sensibilities of style and color.

Instructions

    • 1
The basic frame of the guitar.

Draw the body of the guitar with a large oval and a smaller oval on top of it. Add the neck of the guitar with a thin vertical line across the body of the guitar and extending up.

    • 2
The guitar frame with the head and sound hole.

Draw a circle for the sound hole at the base of the top oval. Add a short horizontal rectangle for the saddle below the sound hole. Add the head of the guitar with a trapezoid shape at the top of the neck. Create the tuners with three small circles on each side of the guitar head.

    • 3
The frame with the pick guard and strings.

Draw the pick guard with a curved teardrop shape to the right of the sound hole. Add six pegs in a horizontal row to the saddle. Draw 6 vertical lines coming down off the tuners and down the neck of the guitar for strings. Add the frets with horizontal lines running down the neck of the guitar.

Erase the pencil and leave behind only the ink.

Ink all the lines you wish to keep in your final illustration. Let the ink dry and carefully erase your pencil strokes with a kneaded eraser.

    • 5
Color your final guitar design however you wish.

Color the design using art markers and colored pencils. Create a unique design by adding graphics on the body of the guitar (flames, flowers or perhaps a recreation of a classic piece of art).

Bring your design to life by contacting a custom guitar maker. They will use your design as a basis for creating the guitar. A list of custom guitar manufacturers is available at netunes.com. Email a manufacturer with your design and ask for a quote.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make a photocopy of the design before you color it so you can try different color schemes and designs.

  • Be sure to let the ink dry completely before erasing the pencil or the ink will smudge.
