Frames and borders around images help to focus the eye and accentuate the artistic points in the image. They are often useful when creating greeting cards or postcards to make the image seem like a window you are looking into. You also often see them used in advertisements and on websites. If you want to be able to create frames or borders for your photographs in Adobe Lightroom that you can then print, the process is fairly straightforward.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open Adobe Lightroom and select an image you want to add a frame or border to. Now decide how large you want the frame to be. Also determine what color you would like the frame to be. This can be judged by the content and subject matter in the image. For instance, if you have a happy bright image of a family running on a sunny beach , you will want to use a bright border or frame such as white or yellow. On the other hand, if you have an image dark forest scene, you might want to use a dark brown.

  2. Step 2

Select the "Page Setup Dialog" from the menu at the top and click "Manage Custom Sizes." In the dialog that now opens up, go to the panel on the left and select from the list the size you want the printed image to be. These selections are divided into those with margins and those without margins. Make sure that "No Margins" is the type that you pick. Click "OK."

  3. Step 3

Select the "Print" tab and make the border "Stroke" the width and color you decided to use for your frame to be. Publish to a high resolution JPEG file if you are planing to print the images on your printer at home, but if you plan to have them image professionally printed as a poster or sign, you will want to save it as a PSD, TIFF or PNG to facilitate high resolution printing.
