A good night's sleep is important for a productive day, and if you have an uncomfortable mattress you are less likely to achieve this. Fortunately, you do not have to run out and buy a new mattress before you try some options to make your existing one more comfortable. With the wealth of mattress accessories on the market as well as a few other tips and tricks, you should have no trouble getting a more comfortable night's sleep.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Flip your mattress. Over the years, as people lie in the same spot, the mattress gets an indentation in it from your body. Flipping your mattress is likely to give you a more level surface to sleep on.

  2. Step 2

Place a corresponding piece of plyboard between the mattress and box springs for a firmer mattress. Doing so allows less give in the mattress.

  3. Step 3

Add a mattress topper, either memory foam or quilted pillowtop, for a softer bed. You can get different levels of thickness and softness depending on your preference.

  4. Step 4

Place a wool blanket between the fitted sheet and the mattress. Wool is thermo-regulating, which means it will only give you warmth when you need it while allowing your skin to breathe. Arthritis sufferers can particularly benefit from this tip.
