How to Make a Tee-Shirt Into a Halter Top
Halter tops are very popular with women, especially in the summertime. A halter top is a fashionable way to stay cool. If you don't have the money to buy a halter top, though, don't worry. As long as you've got an old, unwanted T-shirt lying around and some basic sewing skills, you can make your own halter top. You can use this opportunity to add your own personal touch and creativity to your clothes.
Things You'll Need
- T-shirt
- Matching thread
- Fabric scissors
- Sewing machine
- 1 yard of ribbon

1
Cut the collar and sleeves off of the T-shirt. Cut off the top of the back of the shirt, above where the sleeves ended.
-
2
Cut the top front part of the shirt into a triangle shape. Start just under where the sleeves used to be and cut at a slight diagonal until the diagonal lines meet at the top in the middle where the collar used to be.

3
Fold over all of the raw edges of the T-shirt about 1 inch and hem it all around, leaving a small opening at the tip of the "triangle" on the front of the shirt.
-
4
Thread the ribbon or string all the way around the hemmed edge, gathering slightly as you go (since T-shirts are often looser than halter tops).
-
5
After threading the ribbon through, you should have each end of the ribbon sticking out of the point of the triangle. Put the top on and tie the ribbon tightly behind your neck.

Tips & Warnings
The recommendation of 1 yard of ribbon is based on a medium size T-shirt. Adjust the ribbon length according to your size.
