Draw Disney's Aladdin

Disney's Aladdin made use of high adventure with Persian mythology as a backdrop. Genies, sorcerers, sprawling medieval cities, rooftop chases and cunning thievery all contributed to the success of the film. Aladdin is a cocksure street thief who makes his living by using his wits and stealth. This character is appealing to many fans because he begins his life as a simple criminal and ultimately becomes a ruler of the magical land he inhabits. An illustration of Aladdin can make a great addition to your portfolio if you want to become an animator or work on character design for cartoons.

Instructions

    • 1
The basic frame with the head and shoulders.

Create Aladdin's head with an oval shape with a "V" attached to the bottom to create a chin. Add a cross shape on the head to create a guideline for facial details. Draw the chest with a rectangular shape and add the hips with an upside down triangle below the chest.

    • 2
The frame with arms and legs.

Create the guidelines for the shoulders, elbows and knees with small circles. Add the arms with simple lines, and create the hands with slightly elongated ovals. Add the neck and spine with vertical lines.

    • 3
The figure with fleshed out limbs.

Draw parallel lines around the arms, neck, legs and hips. Draw the feet with rounded triangle shapes. Add the hair with a curved leaf shape on the top of the head for bangs. Add tufts of hair to the bottom left and right of the head.

      Aladdin with his characteristic clothing.

Add Aladdin's hat with a trapezoid shape on the top of the head. Create the vest with two wide vertical bands on the left and right side of the chest. Draw the pants with a large teardrop shape on each leg. Add the sash with a band across the hips.

      The figure with facial details.

Draw Aladdin's eyes with a semicircle inside an oval on the horizontal line of the facial guideline. Create the eyebrows with two thick curved lines above the eyes. Add the nose with a sideways "L" shape below the eyes. Draw the mouth with a curved line below the nose.

    • 6
Inking the figure creates crisp lines.

Ink all of the lines you want to keep with a black pen. Let the ink dry and carefully erase the pencil lines.

    • 7
Color the figure to complete the illustration.

Color Aladdin with art markers. Use tan or light brown for the skin, black for the hair, orange for the sash, and purple for the hat and vest.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try drawing Aladdin in different poses now that you have mastered this basic one.

  • Be sure to let the ink dry before erasing your pencil or you will smudge your illustration.
