Decorate the pews for your wedding

There is no reason wedding decorations have to be expensive. Make many wedding décor items easily and affordably at home with only a few materials and a bit of time. One beautiful decoration to make is the bows for the ends of church pews. With just some white tulle, scissors and a tape measure, you can make all the bows you need for church-pew decorations.

Things You'll Need

  • Tulle (3 yards for one 8-inch bow)
  • Tape measure
  • Scissors
  • Silk flowers (optional)
  • Hot glue gun/glue sticks (optional)
  • Temporary hooks

Instructions

    • 1

Place the tulle horizontally onto the work surface and measure from the left edge over 8 inches. At the 8-inch point, fold the tulle back onto itself toward the starting edge. When you reach the left starting edge again, fold the tulle back toward the right again. Continue to fold the tulle back and forth in 8-inch folds at least 10 times to make a full bow. Make sure the folded tulle lays flat on your work surface. Cut any extra tulle off along the left edge after the last fold is finished.

    • 2

Cut a 1-yard piece of tulle and slip it under the folded tulle so that it is perpendicular to the folded tulle and is centered on the folded tulle.

    • 3

Tie the piece of tulle from Step 2 tightly into a double knot around the folded tulle so that the tails from the knot extend out from each side of the knot. These tails will be the streamers extending down from pew bow.

    • 4

Begin to fluff out the loops of tulle on either side of the center knot. Fluff and twist the tulle loops until the bow is fluffy and attractive.

    • 5

Glue silk flowers into the center tulle loops with hot glue, if desired.

    • 6

Attach temporary hooks to the church pews and place the pew bows onto the hooks so that the bows are near the tops of the pew ends and the tulle streamers reach down toward the floor.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to check with your church director to determine what kind of attachments you can use.

  • Never use anything that will make any permanent marks on the pews.
