How to Make Ice Cream at Home

Making ice cream at home can be very fun for children and adults alike. The ingredients needed to make homemade ice cream are likely to be found in your home. Things You'll Need

  • Ice cubes
  • 6 tbsp. rock salt
  • 1 gallon-size plastic zip bag
  • 1 pint-size plastic zip bag
  • 1/2 cup milk (makes about 1 scoop)
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

      Place ice cubes in the gallon bag. The bag should be halfway full. Pour in 6 tbsp. salt.

      Add milk, vanilla, and sugar into the pint zip bag. Zip the bag up. Be sure that it's secure.

      Put the pint bag inside of the gallon bag. Seal the large bag. Be sure that the bag is securely sealed.

      Shake and knead the bag until the mixture has become thick. This could take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes.

      Remove the pint bag from the gallon bag. Wipe the top of the bag with a cloth. Open the bag, pour the mixture into a bowl and enjoy.

Tips & Warnings

  • Consider double-bagging the pint bag. This will help prevent contamination with the salt and ice mixture if there is a hole in the bag or if it is not sealed properly.
