How to Bake a Bundt Cake

Bundt cakes get their name from the pan in which they are cooked. According to WiseGeek.com, Bundt pans are round with a hole in the middle. The pan's bottom is the top of the cake. The Bundt cake pan indentations help with serving sizes. Bundt cakes are so popular that there is a day set aside for the baking of the cakes. National Bundt Pan Day is held on Nov. 15. Things You'll Need

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1-1/2 tsps. baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1-1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 3 mixing bowls
  • Spoon
  • Bundt pan
  • Cooking spray
  • Hand mixer

Instructions

  1. Preparing the batter

    • 1

      Heat the oven to 350 degrees.

      Mix flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt together in a bowl.

      In another bowl, beat sugar, eggs and butter together with the hand mixer.

      Add the bowl of flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt to the bowl with the sugar, eggs and butter.

      Add sour cream. Mix well.

      In a third bowl, mix cinnamon, 1 tbsp. flour and brown sugar together.

      Lightly grease the bundt pan with cooking spray.

      Pour half in the batter. Add the cinnamon mixture, then add the rest of the batter.

      Bake for about an hour. Let cool before removing from pan.

Tips & Warnings

  • Removing the cake from the pan before it is cooled can cause cracking.
