How to Add a Picture to a Web Page

You can spice up your webpage by adding scanned photos, graphics or clipart!

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Open the web page using a text editor, such as Notepad or EditPad.

  2. Step 2

    Place your cursor where you want the image to appear.

  3. Step 3

    Type the following line, inserting the filename of the image in place of "image.jpg" (but leave the quotation marks): . Save the file.

  4. Step 4

    Open your browser and select Open from the File menu. Double-click or select open on the file to view the page.

  5. Step 5

    Connect to the Internet and upload the page and image file to your site. Preview the image.

Tips & Warnings
  • Change the size by reducing or increasing the pixel size: . Increase by a few pixels at a time, saving and previewing the image until you are satisfied.
  • Many sites offer free clipart to use on your personal website. Type "free web art" into a search engine.
  • Make sure photos are scanned into .jpg (jpeg) or .gif (GIF) format. These are the two most commonly recognized formats for photos on the web. Some older browsers will not even recognize other formats.
  • Use a graphics program like Paint Shop Pro to resize, crop or retouch your images before loading them onto your page.
  • The larger your image, the more space it will take up and it will take longer to download.
  • Obtain permission before using any unlicensed or copyrighted clipart.
  • Do not use images from another web page without permission from the owner of the site.
