You want to apply for a receptionist position with a company. The potential employer wants a cover letter with your resume or you won't be considered, but you have no clue how to compose one. Relax, this document is actually a breeze compared to writing a resume and it gives a brief introduction to your background. Composing a cover letter takes a little skillful writing and a bit of research.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet
  • Printer
  • Resume paper
  1. Step 1

Research the company and the receptionist position you are applying to. The company's website will have information as to what kind of business, services or products it provides. Also research the duties of the position and the skills required.

  2. Step 2

Compose your first sentence in your opening paragraph with pertinent information about the company or the position. This is the reason for the research in Step 1. If you want your first sentence to be about the company, make sure your second one is about the job opening. Also in this paragraph, write why you want to work for the organization, where the position was advertised and if anyone referred you. Do not go over three to four sentences.

  3. Step 3

List your experience, education, and skills in the second paragraph in six to seven sentences. If you do not have any experience in reception or experience at all, list relevant skills such as communication, interaction with other people and proficiency with computers. Also write that your resume is enclosed for further details.

  4. Step 4

Reiterate in the closing paragraph your interest in the position. Let the company know you are available immediately for an interview, how and where you can be reached, and appreciation for considering you. Three sentences should be sufficient.

  5. Step 5

Check over your cover letter for correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not lie or exaggerate about any skills, experience or education in your cover letter.
