If Halloween had a mascot, spiders would definitely be in the running. Making spooky spiders out of paper is an easy project for your little critters, and the supplies needed are often only as far as your craft cupboard. You can use paper spiders as window decorations, ceiling decorations or to greet trick-or-treaters at the front door. Get creative with the colors you use to give each spider some personality or to allow your little helpers to express theirs.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Cut an oval out of construction paper that is approximately 6 inches by 4 inches (or whatever size you want the body of the spider to be). Cut a small circle (approximately 2 to 3 inches) for the head.

  2. Step 2

Cut a piece of construction paper lengthwise into eight strips that are approximately 1 inch across.

  3. Step 3

Glue two "googly" eyes onto the head and allow it to dry. Glue the back 1 inch of the "head" the front 1 inch of the "body" and allow it to dry.

  4. Step 4

Take each of the eight strips and fold them in 1-inch sections forward and backward to achieve an "accordion" effect.

  5. Step 5

Glue four legs to each side of the body and trim them to the desired length.

  6. Step 6

Hang the spider on the wall or make a small slit in the middle of the spider's back and run a piece of string through it. Make a knot in the string on the underside of the body and pull the string up until the knot is flush against the slit. Trim any extra string, and hang the spider as desired.
