How to Make Paper Book Covers

Making a paper book cover for a school textbook or book of value is very simple. With a few basic tools and a little bit of patience, you can create a paper book cover that will protect your books in less than 30 minutes. Many schools require children to make paper book covers, particularly public schools that loan books to different students over a period of several years, and decorating books covers can be a lot of fun for children. Though this book cover is made with a grocery bag, almost any decorative paper can be trimmed to size and used.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the bag open along the side crease. Remove the bottom flap of a regular paper shopping bag to form one large piece of paper.

    • 2

Center the book in the middle of the open paper shopping bag.

    • 3

Bring the bottom portion of the paper up toward the top of the book. Make a crease at the bottom of the book when the paper is pulled upward.

    • 4

Bring the top portion of the paper down toward the bottom of the book. Make a crease at the top of the book when the paper is pulled down. Take the book off the paper.

    • 5

Fold the bottom portion of the paper upward, and bring the top portion of the paper down. Put the book back onto the paper.

    • 6

Center the book and wrap the paper over the top. Start with the left portion first, and then the right.

    • 7

Fold the top portion of the paper that is above the top of the book down and make a crease. Put the front cover of the book into the crease you have created.

    • 8

Fold the bottom portion of the paper that is below the book up and make a crease. Insert the back cover into the crease.

    • 9

Tape the front and back covers to the book with a few small pieces of tape. Two pieces of tape on each side should hold the book cover in place.
