How to Make Layer Styles With Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is one of the most useful graphics programs out there in part because of its ability to create and save preset effects of various types that you can quickly apply to an image. In particular, the ability to create your own layer styles greatly enhances the production process.

      Open Photoshop. Now, select "File" and click "New." If you can work with the default settings, click "OK."

      Select the "Text" tool, and type a letter or word. This is just something to help you visually judge the effect you create.

      Go to the "Layer" panel, and right-click on the text layer. Select "Rasterize Type."

      Click on "Blending Options," which is found under the "FX" icon at the bottom of the "Layer" panel. From the various options like "Drop Shadow" and "Bevel and Emboss," select the ones you want the layer style to have, adjusting the settings of each as you like. Now click "OK."

      Go to "Layer Styles," and click on the "New Style" button. In the dialog that opens, name the style and save it. It will now appear in the layer styles ready to be applied to any image.
