How to Make Christmas Ribbons
Adding a ribbon to a wrapped Christmas present can easily turn it from plain to festive. You can buy ribbon in different colors, like red, green, white, gold, blue, and also in different textures like velvet, satin and sheer. Ribbon is typically found on rolls, and can come in a variety pack with widths from 1/8 inch to 1 1/2 inch. A ribbon can be tied around a Christmas present then the ends curled with scissors to resemble a bow.

1
Decide what color ribbon to use to attach to your gift. If the color of the wrapping paper you used to wrap the present is green and red with a touch of gold, use gold ribbon to accentuate the gold in the paper.

2
Unroll the ribbon, while paying attention to how large the package is. You should make sure you have enough ribbon to wrap around the width and length of the box. Also be sure not too unroll too much ribbon, if so you may end up with too much excess that is wasted because it's too short to be used elsewhere.

Turn the package so the folded seams are on the bottom. Take the ribbon and find the middle of it by folding the ribbon in half and line up the ends with each other with one hand. Mark the middle point of the ribbon with your other hand, then release the ends, and place the middle of the ribbon in the middle of the gift.

Pull the ribbon out so it extends over the length of the gift, being sure to keep the ribbon taut. While holding the ribbon on either end of the gift, turn it over and extend the ribbon over the back of the gift, so both ends meet. Cross the ribbons over each other a quarter of a turn so the ribbon is now facing the width of the gift.
-
5
Extend the ribbon over the width of the gift, still making sure to keep it taut and turn the gift back over to its top side. Make a knot with the ribbon so it stays in place. You should havetwo separate ends of the ribbon.

6
Open your scissors as wide as they can go. Take your scissors and place them near the base of the gift next to the ribbon, in between your thumb and forefinger. Apply pressure to the ribbon and the scissors and begin pulling the scissors and the ribbon up together. Release the ribbon and the scissors when you get near the end. If done correctly, your straight ribbon will now be a curly ribbon. Repeat on the other end of the ribbon.

Tips & Warnings
Don't go too slow when pulling the scissors up with the ribbon, otherwise the ribbon will not curl very tightly. If you go too fast, the ribbon could rip.
You may have to perform the curling technique more than once to get the desired curl you want for your ribbon.
Be careful when using the scissors to curl the ribbon, if done incorrectly you could cut yourself.
