Raising sea monkeys can be a barrel of fun, and they are quite easy to care for. The main necessity is to feed them. If you purchased your sea monkeys from a company, you can likely order their food from the same place. Unfortunately, most sea monkey sellers will send you a small packet of food that costs about $3 plus shipping and handling. It might be more practical to make your own, inexpensive, sea-monkey-sustaining food at home.

Sea monkeys are actually just brine shrimp. They feed on micro-algae found in sea water and sit low on the food chain of aquatic life. If you live near an ocean, replenishing your sea monkey tank with sea water is all your sea monkeys need to survive. If you do not live near the sea, it is easy to make sea monkey food out of egg yolk and a few other products.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon of dry baby food
  • 3 droplets of liquid fry food
  • fish food flakes
  • airtight container

    Sea Monkey Food

  1. Step 1

Hard-boil an egg. Discard the white and mash the yolk in a small bowl with a fork.

  2. Step 2

Mix the tablespoon of dry baby food, 3 droplets of liquid fry food, and a pinch of fish food flakes into the egg yolk, creating a paste.

  3. Step 3

Mold the mixture into 1-inch-long logs and place on a lightly oiled cookie sheet. To dry out the logs, put them into the oven set on low (or about 200 degrees) for about 30 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Crumble the dried logs into the airtight container for storage.
