A tied fleece blanket is an attractive covering that will keep you toasty warm. You can even make one to give as a gift to a special someone. You don't need to have any sewing skills to do this project; there is no sewing required. If you can follow instructions, cut fleece and tie knots, you can make a tied fleece blanket. It takes a few tools, fleece material and some time. It's just as easy as that.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two equal-sized pieces of fleece material
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure
  • 4-inch square of paper
  1. Step 1

Cut off the woven (machine-finished) edges of both pieces of fleece. Cut off as little as possible, and cut the edges off as straight as possible.

  2. Step 2

Stretch the first piece of fleece out on a flat surface with the printed side down. Then stretch the second piece of fleece out on top of the first with the printed side up. Smooth the fabrics out and line up all edges to make a tied fleece blanket.

  3. Step 3

Cut a 4-inch square out of all four corners of both pieces of fleece. Use the paper square as a guide. Place it on each corner and cut around it.

  4. Step 4

Cut 1-inch-wide strips all the way around the side of the tied fleece blanket. Cut 4 inches in from the edges of the fleece. You can use a measuring tape to help gauge the width, but the strips don't need to be perfect. Use the 4-inch paper square to determine how far in you need to cut.

  5. Step 5

Tie the top and bottom strips together. Start at one corner, locate the first two strips and tie them together in a knot. Tie the knot up close to the tied fleece blanket. Fleece is stretchy, so you need to tie the knots with care--don't pull them as tight as you can. Repeat knotting the third, fourth, fifth strips and so on, until the fleece blanket is all tied together.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use 1 to 1 1/2 yards of fleece for each side to make a baby blanket. Use 1 3/4 yards of fleece for each side for a child's blanket. Use 2 yards for each side to make a tied fleece blanket for a teenager or adult. Both sides of the fleece blanket don't have to be the same pattern.
