Find a suitable spot in the jeans to make the holes. Popular spots for jean holes vary with the fashion season; some popular locations in the past have been on the front of the thigh, right below the knee and in the rear.

Decide what type of hole you want to make. Some people like to make slits or straight holes; others like to make circular holes. You can make any kind of hole you like, it depends on your personal tastes. It is a good idea, however, to have a plan before you begin cutting.

Use the fabric scissors to cut the holes in your jeans; be careful not to cut yourself. Fabric scissors are recommended over regular shears, because they will cut the denim much easier and make a cleaner cut.
