Attend and graduate from a polygraph examiner training program. Covered topics may include polygraph techniques, history of the polygraph, polygraph ethics, legal issues and physiology related to lie detector examinations. Finish a one-year to two-year internship under a certified polygraph general examiner. At this time, you can then apply for certification as a general examiner. Your state's Department of Public Safety will hold a general licensing exam. The test will likely consist of a written and oral exam. If you pass, you will receive your certification.
