The best way to get carpet clean is to use a machine that extracts the dirt in the carpet along with the water and shampoo you applied to get rid of it. There are several carpet shampoos on the market, but it's hard to know which one to choose. How do you know which products work and which don't? To save time and money, you can make your own carpet cleaner. The ingredients are inexpensive and easy to find, and the homemade cleaner will effectively clean and deodorize your carpet.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Clean bucket
  • 1 gallon hot water
  • 2 scoops OxiClean Stain Remover Powder
  • Clean wooden paint stir stick
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • Spray bottle
  • Carpet cleaning machine
  1. Step 1

Pour the hot water into the bucket. Pour in the OxiClean and use the stick to stir the solution until the powder is completely dissolved.

  2. Step 2

Pour the vinegar into the bucket. Mix it into the solution with the stir stick.

  3. Step 3

Fill the spray bottle with the carpet cleaner. Spray stains and heavily soiled areas on your carpet. Allow them to sit undisturbed for 20 to 30 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Fill the shampoo tank on the machine with the homemade carpet cleaner. Clean your carpet as usual.

  5. Step 5

Make up more of your own carpet cleaner as needed. You can store unused cleaner in a tightly sealed container. However, it's best to use it as soon as it's been made.

Tips & Warnings
  • Instead of using OxiClean, you can use a generic stain-removing powder such as Sun brand. Before you clean your carpet, it should be thoroughly vacuumed.
  • Keep this homemade carpet cleaning out of the reach of children and pets.
