Bookmarks are handy for the avid reader, but they constantly fall out of books. Beaded bookmarks are inexpensive to make, stay in place, and can save you the hassle of searching through your book to find where you left off reading. Try different color combinations and sizes to create a personalized bookmark for all your reading needs. Find out how to create these beaded bookmarks in just minutes.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Take a piece of ribbon and cut it between 12 and 16 inches long. Cut the ribbon longer if you have extremely tall books. Tie one end of the ribbon into a knot larger than the hole in your beads.

  2. Step 2

String the untied end of the ribbon through the beads you want at the end of your bookmark. Slide them down until they rest snugly against the knot. Add 4 or 5 beads and tie a knot above the last bead to keep them in place.

  3. Step 3

Tie a knot a few inches below the untied end of the ribbon. Slide beads onto the ribbon, repeating the pattern you created with the set of beads at the bottom of the ribbon.

  4. Step 4

Tie a knot in the untied end of the ribbon above the beads to keep them from sliding off. Place the ribbon inside your book with the beads hanging out both the bottom and the top end. This keeps the bookmark from slipping out of the book.

  5. Step 5

Create another version of this bookmark by sliding the first bead onto a piece of ribbon without tying a knot in the end. Take one end of the ribbon, wrap it over the bead and insert it into the bead again. Pull the ribbon tight and the bead will stay in place. Continue to add other beads onto the ribbon.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're having a hard time getting the ribbon through the hole in the beads, you can thread the ribbon onto a needle and then push the needle through the hole in the beads. This makes it easier to string the beads along the ribbon.
