Changing your look can be intimidating, especially when it comes to hairstyles. The good news is there are several makeover websites that allow you to upload your photo and "try on" hairstyles to see how they will look on you. Some sites even allow you to adjust the hair color to match your own. Two free sites that are user-friendly are InStyle.com and DailyMakeover.com Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Take a photo of yourself from the neck up. If you don't have access to a digital camera or have no way of uploading a photo to your computer, most websites offer a variety of models from which to choose. Select a model with the same hair color and face shape as you for best results.

Add your photo by clicking "Upload Your Own Photo," then click the browse button to choose the picture from your computer hard drive. Once you select the picture, click "Upload." In a few moments the picture will appear on your screen.

    • 3

Identify the size and shape of your facial features so the program can properly place the hairstyles when you try them on. The screen will be split into two sections. On the right there will be your picture with a small formatting menu below it. On the left you will find instructions and a picture demonstration of each step. Click the outer corner of each eye. When you click, a small dot will appear. Repeat this step on the outer corners of your mouth, then click once on the middle of your chin.

    • 4

Trace the outline of each of your eyes, your mouth and your teeth. You can refine this outline by moving the dots.

    • 5

Click "Begin Makeover" to try different hairstyles. On InStyle.com, the makeover page will be separated into two tabs, "Star Styles" and "Hair Color." On the "Star Styles" tab, you can sort celebrity hairstyles by name or by most popular styles, or you can view them all. Once you have chosen your hairstyle, you can change your hair color and add highlights and lowlights. You can also adjust the way the hair looks on your face using the menu below your photo.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a high-resolution photo of you looking directly into the camera with your hair pulled back and your bangs away from your face.

  • Some sites allow you to view some hairstyles for free, but ask you to upgrade and pay a fee in order to view other hairstyles. Be careful not to accidentally upgrade.
