A US Customs Agent prevents illegal aliens from entering the United States.

A US Customs agent now works for the Department of US Customs and Border Protection. This change took place after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, when the Department of Homeland Security was created. Customs officers/agents are trained specifically to prevent illegal aliens, terrorists, weapons and illegal cargo or contraband from entering the United States. You will be required to apprehend illegal entrants at the border and conduct anti-smuggling activities.

Knowing what is required and what training you will need can help you determine whether becoming a US Customs Agent is the right career for you.
