Wrapping yourself up warm and cozy in a fleece blanket is one way to survive the cold months. Instead of a bulky fleece blanket that makes it difficult to move around, choose a bright and colorful piece of fleece fabric and make a fleece wrap. Anyone possessing basic sewing skills can easily complete this project in a short time. Once your fleece wrap is finished, you will be warm under your wrap as you go about your activities.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 yard brightly colored fleece (60 inches wide)
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure
  • Sewing machine
  • Coordinating thread
  • Trim or rickrack
  1. Step 1

Lay the fleece out onto a flat work surface so that the long sides are at the top and the bottom. Carefully trim approximately one inch from each short edge, making sure the edges are straight and even.

  2. Step 2

Fold the fleece in half lengthwise, matching up the trimmed edges. Pin along the trimmed edges to hold them secure and make sure the folded edge is straight and flat.

  3. Step 3

Measure 20 inches down from the top along the folded edge and place a pin at the 20-inch point. Cut from the top edge down to the pin to create the neck opening of the fleece wrap. Unpin the pinned edge and remove the marking pin.

  4. Step 4

Open out the fleece fabric and place it flat on the work surface with the wrong side facing up and the neck opening at the bottom closest to you.

  5. Step 5

Turn the raw edges of the neck opening up approximately one inch at the beginning of the neck opening. Pin the folded raw edges in place. Continue turning up the raw edges until you reach the 20-inch point where the neck opening stops. Taper the folding so that at the end of the neck opening the fleece is only folded up about 1/4 inch. Pin these folds to secure.

  6. Step 6

Sew along the folded and pinned neck opening to hem the neck opening and remove the pins.

  7. Step 7

Fold under the long edge opposite the neck opening 1 inch and pin this fold to secure. Stitch 1/2-inch away from the folded edge to hem this edge. Fold under the other long edge that is divided by the neck opening in the same fashion, pin to secure, and sew in the same fashion. Remove the pins.

  8. Step 8

Fold the short edges under one inch and pin these folds to secure. Stitch 1/2 inch away from the folded edges to hem these edges also. Remove the pins.

  9. Step 9

Lay out the fleece wrap with the right side facing up and position the trim or rickrack along all of the hemmed edges. Pin the trim in place and stitch along the trim to attach it to the outer edges of the fleece wrap. Remove the pins to finish the wrap.
