How to Install Cleats on MBT Shoes
If you've just purchased some cleats for your mountain bike shoes, there's no need to have the guys at the shop put them on for you; installing them is something you can do right at home in a short amount of time. Just follow some step-by-step instructions that take you through the process from start to finish. Before you know it, you will be out the door and on a ride.

1
Make sure the cleats are compatible with the pedals you are using.

2
Remove the insoles of your shoes and check to see if your shoes have the retainer plate already installed in your shoe. If so, continue to install your cleats. Sometimes the manufacturer places a cover over the plate so you may need to remove that. If the retainer plate is not already installed, slide it in place to line up the threads with the two vertical slots on the bottom of your shoe.

There are two screws that will come with your mountain bike cleats. If installing for the first time, place the cleat so that it is in the middle of the slots. Using an Allen key, tighten down the screws. Be sure they are tight to make sure you can get in and out of your pedals.

As you dial in your fit, move the cleat forward or backward by sliding the cleat to find that perfect fit.

5
Replace your insoles.
