Creating paper hats at home is an entertaining craft that children of any age will enjoy. All you need with this project is a few craft products that you probably have on hand. Large grocery bags work best for adults, while small school lunch bags work well for smaller children. Make sure to break out the markers, glue, glitter and stickers to allow the children to personalize their hats.

Things You'll Need

  • Paper bag
  • Scissors

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the bottom and one side of the paper bag so you have one long sheet of brown paper.

    • 2

Fold the paper in half by bringing the top edge of the paper to meet the bottom edge. Smooth the fold over to make a distinct crease.

    • 3

Fold the paper bag in half once more. This time take the right edge of the paper and fold it over to meet the left edge. Once again make a distinct crease. Open back up.

    • 4

Make sure the open edges of the bag are closest to you. Fold the right-hand corner of the paper until it reaches the crease in the center of the sheet.

    • 5

Fold the left-hand corner of the paper until it reaches the crease in the center of the sheet. This will create a small triangle.

    • 6

Place your index fingers on the base of the triangle and fold up the bottom of the paper using your thumbs. Make the crease of the fold where your index fingers are.

    • 7

      Repeat on the other side.

    • 8

Gently pull the sides of the hat away from one another so that you create an open space for the hat to rest on your head.

    • 9

Decorate your new paper bag hat.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use any size bags to make these hats.

  • When working with scissors, children should be supervised.
