1
Select two attractive ceramic pots that have a single drain hole. One pot should be tall and the other should be shallow and have a diameter that is slightly smaller than the larger pot.
-
2
Select a spot in the yard that is near an electrical outlet to place the fountain. Dig a hole in the ground that is the diameter and depth of the plastic bucket.
-
-
3
Cut a 1/2-inch notch in the rim of the bucket with tin snips. Set the bucket in the hole with the notch turned toward the electrical outlet.
-
4
Attach the plastic tubing to the pump and set the pump in the bucket. Run the power cord out through the notch in the bucket.
-
5
Use the tin snips to cut a 1/2-inch hole in the center of the mesh. Push the other end of the hose through the hole in the mesh and position the mesh on top of the bucket.
-
6
Thread the hose up through the hole in the bottom of the larger ceramic pot and set the pot on top of the mesh. Feed the hose up through the hole in the bottom of the smaller ceramic pot.
-
7
Fill the bucket with water. Plug in the pump and turn it on to test that water flows through the hose.
-
8
Run clear caulk around the inside rim of the larger ceramic pot and nest the smaller pot against the caulk to seal the two pots together.
-
9
Pull the hose through the hole in the smaller pot until it is taut and trim off excess so it is flush with the hole. Arrange stones around the base of the ceramic pot to conceal the mesh and bucket.
-
10
Wait for the caulk to dry before turning the fountain on.

Tips & Warnings
The base of the outer pot should be slightly smaller than the diameter of the plastic bucket. If the plastic bucket has a handle, remove it before putting the bucket into the hole. Make sure the pump is capable of raising the water to the height of the fountain. This capability, referred to as max head, is usually stated in feet.
