In this article you will learn how to tint your car's window's for only around 30$. This is a step by step guide of what kind of tint to buy, what you will need to apply the tint, and how to get it perfect!!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 role's of window tint film.
  • a window tint application kit
  • a heat gun (not a must have)
  1. Step 1

Head to your nearest wal-mart or auto zone and pick up your supplies. you will need 3 roles of tint and a window tint application kit.
(If you cannot afford a window tint application kit then a utility knife, a bottle a soapy water and a small squeegee will work.)

  2. Step 2

start with the two front window's first a work your way back. clean the window very well using windex or your favorite window cleaning solution.

  3. Step 3

remove a roll of tint from the box. unroll the tint partially until it will cover the whole window, then cut the film from the roll. you should now have a big rectangular piece of film that covers the whole window.

  4. Step 4

now you must completely soak the outside of the window with the soapy water until it's completely covered. this will make the tint stick to the window temperarily holding it in place. stick the tint to the outside of the window.

  5. Step 5

next you will need your utility knife. with it you will need to trim the film to fit the window. Cut off all the excess film so that the film fits perfectly to the window's shape.

  6. Step 6

next if you have a heat gun or you can get your hands on one it will help out alot. If you have a heat gun turn it on while the film is still on the window and go it over the film slowly being careful not to get to close. this step is called heat shrinking the film to the window for a better fit. once you have gone over the film for about 1 minute with the heat gun turn it off and remove the film from the window.

  7. Step 7

next you will need to remove the clear sheet on the cut and shrinked film exposing the sticky part of the film. be very careful when doing this. if the film sticks together it will cause a crease.

  8. Step 8

now once again you will need to soak the sticky side of the film and the INSIDE of the car window with the soapy water solution, covering every part of the window and film.

  9. Step 9

Place the sticky part of the film to the INSIDE of the car window. the soapy water should help you adjust the film so it fits properly. once placed properly to the window use your small squeegee and go over the film very easily and smoothly working out all the air bubbles from under the film. use the heat gun to help with this process. congratulations you have now tinted your window!!! repeat this process for all your windows except your back one that is tricky!!

  10. Step 10

for your back window the same steps apply except you will have to use two sheets of tint film to cover the whole window. when placing the trick is to not see a gap in the two sheets. cut them so that they go horizontally across the window. once all your windows are done do not roll them down for 2-3 days to allow the film to dry.

Tips & Warnings
  • take your time and have patience and your tint should come out perfect!
  • always keep your tint covered in soapy water when working with it.
  • its better if tint is done in a garage and out of the wind.
  • Before applying tint check your states law on what the legal tint percentage is.
  • applying tint that is very dark (20%-5%) can make visibility in day and night alot more difficult.
