Raw feeding your dog is a great alternative to commercial dog food. All natural homemade dog food can improve your dogs health and well being. It can also be less expensive then dog food.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Meat
  • Freezer Space
  • Dogs
  1. Step 1

Find a good source of inexpensive meat. Raw fed dogs can eat any type of meat or fish that is fit for human consumption. This includes chicken, beef, pork, liver, fish, and any other type of animal that a wolf could consume in the wild. Your local butcher might be willing to sell you expired meat inexpensively, or your local deer processor might even be willing to give you meat for free.

  2. Step 2

Divide up the meat into meal sized portions for your dog. Dogs eat about 1 pound of food a day for every 30 pounds that they weigh. So, a dog with an ideal body weight of 30 pounds should eat about a pound of food a day.

  3. Step 3

Feed your dog the raw meat you bought. Dogs are descended from wolves, and they are meant to eat meat. They cannot process grains or money of the other items in commercial dog food. Your dogs health will be improved, and they will get a great workout from eating the raw meat.

  4. Step 4

Vary the types of meat. Dogs need about 5% organs (liver, kidney, etc.) This can be found by feeding them whole chickens, ducks, or other whole animals. It can also be achieved by buying liver or other products from the store. A varied diet of different kinds of meat and organs will keep your dog healthy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy meat in bulk and freeze the meat in meal-sized portions to keep costs down and make meal time easier.
  • Dogs may have a period of stomach upset the first week or so that you switch their food. This will pass.
