Step 1
Gather information.
To obtain a credit report, you'll need your Social Security number, current address, previous addresses (for up to ten years), current phone number (if you have one), date of birth, and you may need things like bank and credit card account information. -
Step 2
Go to the websites of the three credit reporting agencies.
These are: Experian, Equifax, and Trans Union. Find the button for "get credit report" and follow the instructions. These companies are required by law to give you access to (or a copy of) your credit once per year. If you don't want to wait 2 to who knows how many weeks, select the option to view your credit report online. You will be asked to verify a few personal items (a precaution to protect fraudulent access to your credit report), but it should not be difficult if you completed step 1 thoroughly. -
Step 3
Print a copy of your report.
Be prepared to print a copy of your reports. You will only be able to view them once, so if you navigate away from the website, you will be denied access.
