How to Make a Hummingbird Feeder From a Plastic Bottle

Hummingbirds eat nectar and need a special type of feeder. Hummingbird feeders are expensive. Making a hummingbird feeder out of everyday items not only saves money but reuses waste.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Unwind the wire hanger. Make a small loop for the bottle cap to fit in.

  2. Step 2

    Clean the pop bottle thoroughly. Any traces of pop should be gone.

  3. Step 3

    Pour 4 cups of water in a bowl. Mix in 1 cup of sugar. Pour the mixture in the pop bottle.

  4. Step 4

    Set the red pop bottle lid on a flat surface. Set the nail on the top of the lid. Gently tap with the hammer several small hole in the middle. Red attracts hummingbirds.

  5. Step 5

    Screw the lid on tightly. With the bottle right side up, put the cap through the loop in the wire. Wrap the rest of the coat hanger around the bottle to support it. Leave a few inches to make a hook.

  6. Step 6

    Bend a hook with the last of the coat hanger. Hang from a tree so the bottle is upside down.

  • Bend any sharp edges.
