How to create an Iphone Application and publish it to the App Store.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Iphone or Itouch
  • Apple OS computer
  • Time
  1. Step 1

The first thing you need to do is determine what type of Iphone application you want to create. The reason being is that different applications require different levels of knowledge. To create an Iphone application or any application in general you would need to know some programming. The native language for programming Iphone applications is objective-c. Objective-c is very similar to c or c++. The basic syntax and language are the same.

  2. Step 2

Take a programming course at your local community college. If you have no programming experience at all, first of all you should take a beginning programming course, preferably in objective-c. If you do not have time to take a course, you could always buy a book on objective-c from Borders or Barnes & Noble. There are tons of books out there for it.

  3. Step 3

Buy a Mac. This is a crucial step as the Iphone SDK is only available for Apple operating systems. You can buy a Mac Mini, Macbook, or desktop as long as they are running Mac OS X or greater.

  4. Step 4

Log on to developer.apple.com/iphone and sign up as an Iphone developer. This will allow you to download the Iphone SDK and start working on building apps. The Iphone SDK comes with many useful tools, the most important being Xcode which is your programming environment. Another very important tool in the SDK is the interface builder which you can use to generate your interface.

  5. Step 5

Once you have downloaded and installed the Iphone SDK and read a book on programming in Objective-C or taken a course for it you are ready to begin working. Most developers fail in creating their application by aiming too high. Try developing a simple application first and working your way up.

  6. Step 6

Test your app! You will need an Iphone or Itouch to test if your application is working properly. The Iphone SDK comes with an Iphone simulator but a simulator can only do so much. The actual hardware is the best test for any application.

  7. Step 7

Publish your app! Once you are done testing your Iphone App you are ready to publish it to the App Store. You will need to pay for the developer upgrade on Apple.com to publish apps; the cost is $100 per year. Once you have submitted an application for review, Apple will review your app and publish it to the App Store if it passes their tests and standards. No inappropriate content will be published; nudity, vulgarity, etc. After that you are ready to view your reports and watch the money flow in, or not depending on the popularity of your app. Apple withholds 30% of any revenue collected for marketing and selling your application. Good luck.
