Baby blanket made of fleece
Baby blanket made of fleece

This is a super easy way to create a baby blanket (or "grown-up" blanket for that matter) that is original, and SO easy to do. NO sewing or glue required!!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • fleece of any color
  • scissors
  • tape measure
  1. Step 1
    Choose any color of fleece
    Choose any color of fleece

Purchase fleece. You can get as many different colors that you would like depending on what you want the blanket to turn out looking like. I'll suggest purchasing at least 2 different colors. For this ehow, I will give instructions for only two colors. Start with 2 yards of each color.

  2. Step 2
    8' square traced onto fleece
    8' square traced onto fleece

Cut each color of fleece into 8 inch squares. You can use 9 or 10 inch squares if you are making a bigger blanket or a blanket for a bigger person. You will need a guide for cutting. I just used a piece of cardboard that I had cut 8 inches X 8 inches as my guide. You can trace it onto the fleece or cut around it. Then cut all the fleece out so that you are left with only squares.

  3. Step 3
    8
    8

Each corner of your 8 inch square needs to be cut out. Measure up 2 inches from the bottom left of the square. Mark it, then measure over to the right 2 inches. Mark it. That is the square that you will need to cut out. Do this for every corner, of each square.

  4. Step 4
    Fringe edges
    Fringe edges

When all of your corners are cut out, you will need to add your fringe. You now have a new bottom left corner (you know, the one that has been cut-in the two inches.) Start there and mark every 1/2 inch. Then at each 1/2 inch marking, measure from the outside of the square 2 inches toward the inside of the square. (I hope this makes sense.) So, you will now cut this mark you have made. I actually don't even measure it. I know that for an 8 inch square I am suppose to have 8 fringes, so I cut one, 2 inch deep cut in the middle of the one side, then on the left to that cut I will make 4 fringes and to the right of the middle cut, I will also make 4 fringes.

  5. Step 5
    Tie colors together
    Tie colors together

Now, for the fun part. Tie the fringes together. Remember you want a pattern, so grab one square of one color and another square of a different color. (I played around in excel with colors and patterns to see what pattern I wanted for this blanket.) You can get really creative with lots of different colors. Take the top right fringe of one square and you are going to tie a knot with the top left fringe of another color. Keep your knot pattern the same throughout the whole blanket. You know----left over right, then right over left. Then tie.

  6. Step 6

Continue to tie the colors together until you get 12 squares going one direction, and 10 squares the other direction. This will fit a crib bed. You really can make it smaller to just cover a car seat or change it for whatever your needs are.

  7. Step 7

When I have my blanket the size that I want, I go around the edges and tie the open fringes into a single knot. This step is all personal preference. I like the finished look. You may like the fringes left alone.

  8. Step 8

That was easy. Now you are done. Enjoy the blanket!!
