How to Discipline Kids in Public Places

Always keep your kids busy while you're out and about.

Discipline kids in public places by having a plan before you leave the house. How many times have you seen this in a grocery store or department store? A grown adult is allowing a child to misbehave and act out in public, screaming and rolling on the floor. If you agree that there is something wrong with this picture, then take the proper steps
to be sure your kids will behave in public.

Instructions

1. Explain to your child before you leave the house that misbehaving will not be tolerated.

2. Pack a favorite toy for your children in order to distract them while you are trying to get your shopping completed. Have a snack and drink prepared for them so they don't feel tempted by what's in the store.

3. Remind your children that they are not to misbehave when you reach the public place and before you walk inside. Discipline your kids in public places by communicating assertively but lovingly if they defy you. If necessary, find a customer service representative and ask her to tell your child there is no screaming allowed in the place of business.

4. Show your little one a list of the items that mommy or daddy plan to purchase while shopping, or your list of things to do while you're out and about.

5. Avoid walking down aisles with toys and candy, which may prompt them to beg or scream for something they are not allowed to have.

6. When you see other children misbehaving in a public place, explain to your child that the behavior is unacceptable.

7. If your child really gets out of control with a temper tantrum, you might need to leave the public place. Teach your child that if he does not behave, he will lose the privilege to be out in public with you and will have to go home.
