Goings to a salon to have your hair professionally colored could get pretty pricey. Dyeing your hair at hair works just as well and is a lot more affordable.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A friend
  • Dye kit
  • Old t-shirt
  • Newspapers
  • Comb or brush
  1. Step 1

First, pick out a color you want. Hair dyes are available at most grocery stores, Targets and Walgreens.

  2. Step 2

Ask a friend if they are willing to help you. It works much easier if someone is there to apply the dye to your hair. This will prevent the dye from staining your clothes or skin.

  3. Step 3

Mix the dye according to the instructions. There is usually a developer and a dye that will need to be mixed together.

  4. Step 4

Be sure the person that is applying the dye is wearing gloves. If the dye is exposes to bare skin it can create a burning sensation.

  5. Step 5

Dye your hair on a hard surface with plenty of old towels or newspapers underneath to protect the floor from any dye that could fall. Also, make sure you are wearing an old shirt that you won’t mind getting stained.

  6. Step 6

Have the person applying the dye start at your scalp and lather it into your dry hair. Be sure to close your eyes during the process to avoid getting any dye into your eyes. Completely soak your hair with the dye until every square inch of your head is covered.

  7. Step 7

Leave the dye sit in your hair for 25-40 minutes depending on how light or dark you want it.

  8. Step 8

Rinse the dye out with warm water and make sure the water runs clear so you are positive all of the dye is rinsed out.

  9. Step 9

Apply the conditioner that came with the dye package and let it sit in your damp hair for 2-3 minutes.

  10. Step 10

Rinse out the conditioner and towel-dry your hair.

  11. Step 11

Comb out all the tangles and admire your new look.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid skin contact with the dye. If the dye were to come in contact with your skin wash immediately.
