How to create a Lasagna to celebrate

You can buy frozen lasagna and it's not too bad. Use can make lasagna with bottled sauce and it's not too bad. But do you remember the lasagna mama made? This recipe will do hers justice!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hamburger (optional)
  • Ricotta Cheese (low fat)
  • Mozzarella Cheese (Shredded, 2 cups at least)
  • Eggs
  • Tomato paste
  • Tomato Sauce
  • Stewed Tomatoes
  • Onion
  • Pepper
  • Green Pepper
  • Garlic
  • Oregano
  • Basil
  • Lasagna noodles
  • 9" x 9" cake pan or larger
  1. Step 1

    Dice onion and green peppers and add to hamburger.
    Brown & sauté in heavy skillet and drain.

  2. Step 2

    Add 1can stewed tomatoes (drained)
    Add 1 Can tomato paste and
    2 cans tomato sauce
    Season with garlic, pepper, oregano, basil.
    Cover and Simmer on low heat, stirring occasionally.

  3. Step 3

    Cook lasagna noodles according to directions on box.
    Drain and replace enough cool water in pan to cover noodles and set aside.

  4. Step 4

    While sauce is simmering:
    Empty 2 cups ricotta cheese into large bowl.
    Mixed in 8 ounces of shredded mozorella cheese.
    Mix in 2 whole eggs
    Pepper to taste
    Set aside

  5. Step 5

    Putting it all together:
    Spoon enough sauce into pan to barely cover the bottom.
    Place 2 layers of noodles over sauce (Be sure to get these as drained as possible)
    Spoon 1/2 ricotta cheese mixture over noodles and spreading gently.
    Spoon 1/2 of the sauce over cheese mixture (enough to cover)
    Sprinkle lightly with mozarella cheese (Leave plenty of mozarella to put on top!)

  6. Step 6

    Repeat layers.
    Over top layer of mozarella sprinkle a generous amount of parmesan cheese.
    Cook in 350 degree oven until cheese is melted and bubbly. (About 1/2 hour)
    Let sit for about 15 minutes, cut and serve with Italian Garlic Bread or
    Garlic Texas Toast.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your sauce appears too thin, add a small amount of flour or cornstarch to thicken it before adding to the other ingredients.
