Find leaks in your air mattress in minutes without using messy soapy water or baby powder.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • tissue paper
  • quiet room
  • marker
  1. Step 1

Inflate your air mattress to maximum capacity and place it on the floor. Be sure you have enough space around the mattress so you can easily move around it. It is important for the room to be quiet and free from wind or fans that could blow the tissue off the mattress.

  2. Step 2

Spread the tissue flat on top the air mattress starting at one of the corners. Put your ear near the tissue and listen for a hissing sound. If you don't hear any hissing, the leak is not under the tissue. Make sure you put your weight on the air mattress to help push the air out of the leak. This will make it easier to hear the hissing.

  3. Step 3

Continue moving the tissue in a systematic way over the air mattress. After you have checked one side of the mattress, flip the mattress over and check the other side. Don't forget to check the sides of the mattress too.

  4. Step 4

When you hear a hissing sound, you have found a leak. Lift the tissue to see if you can spot the leak. If you can't see it, move the tissue around to try and locate the exact spot of the hissing.

  5. Step 5

Once the leak is located, use a marker to mark the spot of the leak. Be sure to make the mark big enough for you to find later.

  6. Step 6

After you are done checking the whole air mattress for leaks, you can use the patch kit that came with your air mattress to patch all of the leaks that you have just found. The whole process should only take you a few minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't have any tissue paper, you can try to use a sheet of foil or facial tissue.
