Did you know that in the winter, squirrels do all they can to steal seeds from bird feeders, but with this squirrel-proof shield, you can keep the squirrels out and the seeds in.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Drill
  • Bird feeder on a drillable pole(e.g., wood, plastic, metal)
  • Large nail
  • 2-foot-square piece of pliable sheet metal
  • Scissors
  • Glue, stapler, or hole punch and metal fasteners
  1. Step 1

Drill a hole about halfway up the bird feeder pole and insert the nail all the way through the hole.

  2. Step 2

Cut a circle 2 feet in diameter out of the sheet metal.

  3. Step 3

Make a cut from the outside of the circle and make a hole in the center a little bigger than the circumference of the feeder pole.

  4. Step 4

Wrap the sheet metal circle around the pole so it rests loosely on the nail. If a squirrel launches itself on top of the cone from a nearby tree (which squirrels do), the cone will not support its weight.

  5. Step 5

Form the cone by gluing the sides together with a strong glue, stapling, or punching holes and affixing fasteners.
