For some, unemployment is a blessing. Perhaps, one did not have the courage to change jobs but 'fate' has done this. A brief moment of celebration may occur (most likely brief). Maybe one has longed for more free time - now one has it. There are various conditions that apply to being unemployed. For those with income saved, or a constant stream of adequate income, being unemployed can be experienced as a change in routine. For those who did not save, being unemployed can be a major source of stress.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

How do to deal with being unemployed? Well, it depends what being unemployed means to you. If being unemployed is 'freedom', then you have more freetime to do what you want.

  2. Step 2

Money? Where is it? Ok, you did not save now what? If you were not fired, apply for unemployment insurance. If you were fired but you think you have case where you were actually let go due to reasons other than due to performance issues, then file for unemployment anyway. You might be able to argue your case to an administrative law judge and win. Cut back your spending and consider food sources such as potlucks and foodbanks. Try to find all the low cost or free resources you can such as low cost medical clinics and counseling.

  3. Step 3

Ok, you have money but what do you do with all that time on your hands? If you are used to a routine, that routine is gone. If you need to look for a job, spend a few hours a day researching available work resources and try to set up some interviews. If you don't need to find a job then you are retired. What are you gonna do? Anything you want (well almost). Do you want to go back to school? Travel? Make a list of things you want to do and start doing them. You can volunteer, take classes, make things, hang out at the beach (or a mall). You can even try to get another job (how about spending 20 hours a day writing eHow articles?).

Tips & Warnings
  • Unemployed means you are not working. That is not necessarily a bad thing but if you don't have any money coming in and you have bills, you are probably not jumping with excitement (unless you can get paid for doing that).
  • Being unemployed can also be a form of retirement if you have other sources of income
  • If you watch TV all day and you live alone no one will stop you. Perhaps, you want to do alittle more than that? What'd you think?
  • For some reason graphics cannot be saved with the article 'pout
