How to Make a Twitter Follow Me button on Your Joomla website

There are many ways to add a Follow-Me button to your Joomla website. certainly there are some ready to install modules out there you can get through Joomla.org website. But if you want to make a simple button and give it a little personal touch, then the following instruction may be for you.

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • A Twitter account
  • Access to internet
  1. Step 1

    First you have to create a nice looking image representing twitter. If you cannot create your own, look for it on Google images by searching for “twitter”. There are also many web sites on the internet that provide free creative images for this purpose.

  2. Step 2

    Size the image using your favorite image editing program to 25X25 pixels. You can make it bigger if you so desire.

  3. Step 3

    Upload the image into the media manager of Joomla.

  4. Step 4

    Now go to Module Manager and hit New to create a new module. You can find this under extensions in Joomla 1.5.

  5. Step 5

    In Joomla 1.5, you will be given a list of types of modules that you can create. Choose “Custom HTML” then press ‘Next’ at the top-right.

  6. Step 6

    For Title enter “Follow Me on Twitter”

  7. Step 7

    Next you can choose to display or not to display the title but do choose enable.

  8. Step 8

    Click in the edit box below and then choose ‘image’ button below and import the twitter image you have created in to the module.

  9. Step 9

    Type the following in front of the button: Follow me on twitter.

  10. Step 10

    Then click once on the graphic and choose link button from the top menu bar.

  11. Step 11

    Enter your twitter address in the URL section: http;//twitter.com/XXXXX where XXXXX is your twitter user id.

  12. Step 12

    Save and publish your new module near your RSS feed button for best visibility. You are done.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you do not have Joomla 1.5, the step are quite similar on the earlier versions of Joomla or Mambo.
