Those little hooded baby towels are so cute! If you didn’t get one at your baby shower, or if you need to take a gift to an upcoming baby shower, here is your answer: make it yourself!! Maybe you just want to pamper yourself and stay warm after your own next shower; you can have this made before you even get wet!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 towel, beach sized for an adult and regular bath size for a child
  • 2 or 3 Matching or contrasting colored wash cloths
  • Thread to match
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Lay the towel flat on a table or on the floor, with the wrong side up. To find the wrong side of a towel, check the two end seams, the hem is folded towards the back side.

  2. Step 2

Go to one corner, and match your washcloth up to the corner of the towel. From halfway up one side of the washcloth, sew the cloth to the towel in an even curve, around to the other side and down half the wash cloth.

Try it on by putting the open end of the wash cloth over your head, and wrap the towel around your body.

  3. Step 3

Another variation is to sew the washcloth to the center of the end of the towel. To do it this way, fold the washcloth, corner to corner, to make a tri-angle. Beginning at one corner, sew the wash cloth to the towel to the bottom corner and run continuously to the third corner. There should be one corner not connected to anything. Pull that corner up over your head and wrap the towel around your body.

  4. Step 4

You can also sew another washcloth or two to the outside of your bath towel to use as pockets. If the cloths are small, simply sew down three sides of the cloth to the towel. If it is a large wash cloth, you can cu it in half and make two smaller pockets. You can stitch cloth ribbon across the pockets to add some decoration if you like.

  5. Step 5

A third variation is to begin with two matching towels to make a larger and thirstier bath wrap. Cut one towel lengthwise straight up the middle. Sew one cut side to each edge of the whole towel. Center your washcloth just as you did above. Sew your washcloth pockets onto your wrap.

Tips & Warnings
  • Older towels are often softer and more absorbent
  • Fabric softner makes towels less absorbent
