How to Become Popular on Twitter
Few Twitter users would be displeased with the prospect of several thousand new followers. However, popularity on Twitter is difficult to obtain; celebrities can easily gather millions of followers through name recognition. If you are not a celebrity, however, simply starting an account and tweeting is unlikely to advance your Twitter popularity quickly. Gain followers on Twitter with a promotional approach; write about hot topics, tag your tweets for fast searching and attempt to get your name mentioned by established Twitter users.

1
Tweet about topics that others are interested in, such as new book or movie releases, celebrity gossip or current events. If you have an opinion that puts an interesting spin on a popular topic, others will take notice and begin following you. Avoid tweeting about mundane events. For example, "About to brush my teeth" is a tweet that is unlikely to interest even your best friends and may cause people to stop following you.

2
Use hashtags to make your content searchable. When tweeting, turn a keyword into a hashtag by putting a pound symbol in front of it, such as "#celebrities." This causes your tweet to appear on results pages when people search for tweets about that topic.

3
Share content on other social media services. For example, upload a collection of funny or informative videos to YouTube with links to your Twitter profile. If your Twitter account has few followers, people may be more likely to stumble on your content on other websites where it is less difficult to find an audience. Those who enjoy the content may become new followers.

4
Start a blog and link it to your Twitter account. Because blogs contain far more text than tweets, your blog entries stand a much better chance of appearing on the results pages of search engines such as Google. If you tweet about your opinions, a blog is an excellent platform for expressing those opinions in greater depth.

5
Tweet at a celebrity if you have something to say that might cause her to take notice and respond. If she responds to your tweet, the response appears on her Twitter account along with your user name. If she has millions of followers, some will certainly investigate your Twitter page to find out who you are.
-
6
Add a picture to your Twitter profile. If your goal is to be popular on Twitter, many of the people who follow you will be strangers, so give them a way to link a face with your name and feel like they know you.
