Things You'll Need:
- Chalk box
- Hammer
- Roofing nails
- Roofing tar
-
Step 1
Place a ridge cap shingle on both ends of the ridge. Center the shingles so that the same amount of shingle is on either side of the roof. Mark the edge of the shingles on the front side of the roof.
-
Step 2
Snap a chalk line on the front side of the roof using the two marks made in Step 1.
-
Step 3
Install the ridge cap shingles, aligning the front edge with the chalk line. Place the first shingle flush with the edge of the existing shingles and nail it in the same spot as a regular shingle, one nail on each side of the roof. Continue nailing shingle until you reach the other end of the roof.
-
Step 4
Nail the final ridge shingle in place at the other end. These nail heads will be exposed as no shingle will be covering them so use a dab of roofing tar to thoroughly cover them.
