Things You'll Need:
- In order to utilize a sprouting jar, you need only three things: a Quart Jar with a wide mouth, plastic screen that will serve as a lid and something that will secure your plastic screen.
-
Step 1
Choose a location where the jar will be placed. The sprouting jar must be well-situated and it should be seen easily. Keep the jar in a place far from direct sunlight so it will not dry up. The place need not be dark, just keep it away under the sunlight.
-
Step 2
Measure the amount of seeds you will plant in the jar. For our quart jar, we can plant about two tablespoons of small seeds.
-
Step 3
Wash the seeds by soaking it in a solution of two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and 1/3 jar of lukewarm water. Soak it for 10 minutes. Drain the water by using the plastic screen. Make sure that the solution is drained properly.
-
Step 4
In order to soften the seeds and to make it ready for sprouting, pour 1/3 jar of clean water which is under room temperature. Soak it overnight to achieve the best results. Drain the water the next day and clean the seeds under running water. Make sure to keep the water drained.
-
Step 5
Place the jar in a 45 degree angle whenever you drain the water off the seeds.
-
Step 6
Rinse the seeds with clean water and drain the jar about two to three times per day. Rinsing it frequently will avoid the seeds from spoiling. This is also to rinse off the clumps that are forming inside the jar. This method also ensures that other dirt that might be dangerous to the growth of your sprouts will be eradicated.
-
Step 7
Harvest the sprouts when they already have filled the jar. Make sure to clean them well by washing it gently in a bowl of water. Keep it in your refrigerator to keep it fresh and crisp.
